Calathea Makoyana
Also known as the Peacock Plant, the Calathea Makoyana recognized by its leaves' resemblance to the feathers of a peacock, and is perhaps as mesmerizing as the bird itself. The plant's leaves are a dark and light green color and the undersides are burgundy and cream. This plant remains relatively small, becoming no larger than 2 feet tall at its mature size. It is a member of the prayer plant family, Marantaceae, which are named for the manner in which its members' leaves fold upwards at night. These plants tend to grow best in medium to low light and soil that is constantly moist.
How to keep it Leafy:
Water this plant with filtered water or water that has been left out overnight, as it is particularly sensitive to chemicals in the water and can begin to brown around the tips and edges. In addition, maintain high humidity in order to prevent crispy edges. Although more sensitive than many plants, this plant will reward you with its beautiful leaves and unusual movement.
